Raymond Gutierrez and Hosting Pinoy Idol
“No comparisons please,” was Raymond Gutierrez’s request to those who would compare his hosting skills to Ryan Agoncillo’s, former host of the Philippine Idol, the local franchise of American Idol.
Last Friday, February 1, 2007, was hectic for Raymond. Alas otso na ng gabi ay on his feet pa rin siya na nanonood ng audition sa control room and waiting for his turn to interview those who auditioned at isinalang sa harap tatlong judges ng Pinoy Idol na sina Wyngard Tracy, Jolina Magdangal at Ogie Alcasid. Pero hindi mo makikitaan ng pagod ang isa sa kambal nina Eddie Gutierrez at Annabelle Rama kahit na he has been doing that since morning of that day sa third leg ng out of town audition ng Pinoy Idol sa Iloilo.
Raymond has been in Iloilo since Thursday, at Sabado ng hapon siya lumipad. Pag-uwi niya sa Maynila, maghahanda pa siya for his two Sunday shows sa GMA, ang SOP at Showbiz Central. Pagkatapos, lilipad naman siya patungong Cebu for the fourth leg of the audition next weekend.
“I love this job. It challenges me so I love doing it…” ang sabi ni Richard while waiting for his next interview.
“First of all, there is no comparison at all dahil for this Idol show, we are asked to make it different and feeling new. I commend Ryan in his hosting skill. I always say that I feel Ryan is one of the best new hosts of showbiz. Magaling siya talaga and he is very funny. We hosted together once last year so I know how good he is. Pero para i-compare ako sa kaniya, magkaiba naman ang style namin,” ang sagot niya.
Yaman din lamang na nabanggit niya si Ryan Seacrest, we asked him na rin if he is watching American Idol and subconsciously imitating Ryan’s hosting style.
“I love Ryan. Lahat kami dito sa PI kapag break at kapag AI, nanonood. It’s good to watch how he works but I try not to emulate him. Iba naman kasi ang AI sa PI so doon pa lang, hindi ko siya magagaya at all,” ang mabilis na sagot ng guwapong host.
Raymond observed na ang local contestants daw kasi, mga reserved at mahiyain, hindi katulad sa U.S. na may mga extremes.
Aniya, “Dito pa lang, hindi na kami puwedeng magkatulad ng mga itatanong, so no possibility of emulating how he asks the contestants. Mababait at mahiyain ang mga PI contestants although there are some na palaban talaga. Marami sa contestants natin, kapag sinabing ‘no’ ‘di ‘no,’ aalis na lang. Hindi na sila lumalaban tulad sa AI.
“But we have some surprises once in a while,” ang huling tinuran niya.

I am a big fun of the American Idol and I was so excited when I heard that were having our very own Pinoy Idol soon. Sadly I did not know the Philippines Idol. I am just wondering why they do not put up the official site yet for PI? I think it helps a lot of promotions and stuff if people around the world will sees it on internet. About the final judges I do not think they chose the best one for the table and the host Raymond Gutierez, I could say he is becoming a good host but I guess not that good enough yet for the show. In fairness with Richard, I think Paulo Bediones is the best fit for the Pinoy Idol.
okey lang si raymond. magaling naman sya e. ask ko lang kung ipapalabas ang pinoy idol dito sa saudi.
