A Message to GMA TV Network From Pinoy Idol Fans
I can’t help but agree with the readers of my blog. (I verified the IP address of the comments and they are all unique IP adress).
As I went through the criticisms towards GMA’s management of Pinoy Idol, I could only agree on these comments.
Attention GMA. Please do something with Pinoy Idol. These comments are meant to be constructive because we support the Pinoy Idol. I even created a separate blog for the Pinoy Idol because I had high hopes that it will surpass the ABC 5 Philippine Idol in 2006. I watched most of the live shows of Philippine Idol and compared it with the current Pinoy Idol so I have basis for my constructive criticisms.
I hope you look into these comments.
1. The top 24?? Top na ba yun? They all sound like bar singers. Walang dating. No one has a distinctive sound. No distinctive style. Wala ngang aabot sa kalibre ni Jan Nieto e. There’s something wrong with the judges.
2. The lights on the scaffolds of the stage, still too bright.
2. Even the video editing is soo boring… just lame ( i think i’ll be using “lame” to it’s fullest redundancy)
4. Even the sound, the musical band seems so karaoke on sound. It’s so sad that danny’s musical prowess is put into lame reputation. Even the voise of the amazing “the opera” cant be heard.
5. Get a more bigger set… It’s so funny to watch the 24 contestant on that small stage…it seems like another edsa revolution.
6. As for the JUDGES.. In the first place ANO ANG PURPOSE NI WYNGARD? MANG-INSULTO O TURUAN NG TAMANG DISKARTE ANG MGA CONTESTANTS?? Sana man lang gawin nyang matino mga comments niya.
7. Even Raymond Gutierrez gets the ire of the fans on his non-existent people skills.
Raymond Gutierrez is obviously disconnected to the contestants. Wala kang makikitang relationship between host at contestant. Ok. Eliminated ka na… malayo naman narating mo eh so wag ka ng malungkot. sayang yung oras! What was that making them all sing one song parang mga hayop na wala ng kwenta!
And finally to sum up everything, this reader says:
It was a big disappointment. I really expected too much from GMA since its one of the best station in the country. I couldn’t believed that they would came out with a show like this! It was a total trash..poor sound , set designs, judges , host..everything! its just like a barangay fiesta amateur contest! although some contestants got the talent..its all wasted with this kind of production! ABS CBN’s The Singing Bee is far more entertaining and alive than this show. GMA totally ruined the good reputation of American Idol.tsk..tsk…

GMA 7, you bought the show format and not just the title. So please, live up to the Idol standards. I’m not expecting this to be similar to American Idol but make us feel that we are watching an Idol show not just a crappy barangay singing contest.
Here is my unsolicited advice for GMA
There are some aspects of the show that are beyond GMA’s control like the Top 24 finalists but improvements are still possible.
1. Change the judges. I know it’s easier said than done. Hadji Alejandro, Nora Aunor, Regine Velasquez or some credible singer can fill their places.
2. If they are unable to change the judges, GMA should give the 3 judges some sort of “How to give comments” workshop to come out with intelligent comments.
3. Before the start of the show, get an entertainer to liven up the audience. When I was at Philippine Idol live shows, a “Cheerleader” wakes up the crowd to bring the energy level up. This is to ensure that when the camera pans the crowd, the audience is smiling and animated. The “cheerlearder” often said to us “bawal nakasimangot”.
4. Raymond Gutierrez, like the judges should also have some sort of workshop too. Study the hosting and people skills of Ryan Seacrest . Raymond should practice more empathy for the contestants especially when one is eliminated.
5. Better yet, review the tapes of ABC Philippine Idol episodes and make Pinoy Idol even better. There are a lot of them in youtube.
6. Lastly, hire the previous Philippine Idol production staff on contractual basis just to rev up Pinoy Idol production values.

I too have high hopes that the show would be better when it was transferred to GMA 7. But so far I’m disappointed in what they are doing with the show. In fact, I created a podcast dedicated to Pinoy Idol and I also created my main blog as a pseudo-Pinoy Idol blog.
Just to add, good thing you blogged about this also. I hope that this post gets GMA 7’s attention since your Pinoy Idol blog is in top of Google SERPs for the keyword “Pinoy Idol”.

Pinoy Idol’s more than a disappointment!
Like you, I’ve watched Philippine Idol on ABC5 and, apart from the its audience reach, that show was a LOT better than Pinoy Idol.
The time slot is crazy! No published time! I get the feeling that GMA’s only reaching out to its regular viewers. Also, seems like they want non-GMA regular viewers to watch all their teleserye’s so that we won’t miss Pinoy Idol! Tsk, tsk. Very bad strategy!
I didn’t like Mamita sa Philippine Idol but I miss her comments in Pinoy Idol. She was far more entertaining than the three judges combined!
Raymond is BORING as a host! The elimination show smacks of the usual GMA elimination shows (as in Starstruck) like I was watching a FUNERAL!
And the studio audience! Gee, walang kabuhay-buhay!
GMA, wake up! If you think you’ll get more viewers by franchising Idol, you’re not getting anywhere the way you’re handling it now!

Me too….the first day of the top 24 I was so excited to watch it…Honestly I was bored and disappointed knowing that my favorite Network is going to air the show, but then at my surprise I wanted to sleep na lang kaysa mag watch. I don’t like wyngard as a judge, I don’t even understand why he’s there, wala na siyang masabing maganda, I dunno kung ano gusto nyang i-prove. I agree with some of the comments na parang mas maganda pa sya ng Philippines Idol siya at ABC 5. To Raymond, walang siyang ibang masabi kundi let’s hear it from the judges, eww…lumalabas tuloy ang pagka hmmm…. nya? I’m sorry to tell this but I said to some of my friends na boring ang Pinoy Idol, unless GMA 7 will do somthing on the program.
Ang mga ibang guys na napili, Yikess…pang karaoke nga…but i like the last 3 guys in fairness…meron silang talent but the first 6 contestants …grabe …mga pa cute…In fairness - the girls ay mas magagaling kaysa sa mga boys…

I really hate the show… It’s a shiny piece of crap!!! I was not even excited when they announced the top 24… OMGFS, mas magagaling pa ata yung ibang mga natanggal kaysa sa mga nag-stay!!! Please lang naman, sana ibahin talaga nila… Major overhauling ang kailangan ng show!!! Fire the whole staff and crew!!! They are doing nothing to improve the calibre of the show. I compare them sa ibang singing comps sa ibang networks and they have “IT”… May chemistry kasi ang lahat… Dapat makuha na nila yun!!! Ang pangit talag… From the set design to the judges and most importantly, THE HOST!!! Mukhang tinakot lang ni Annabelle Rama ang GMA para makuha ni Raymond ang hosting stint na yan!!! Ang mga judges, very safe or kung minsan, overboard naman ang comments!!! Si Simon, metaphors lang ang ginagamit… My God, anu ba mae-expect natin kay Wyngard? Hindi nga marunong makinig yan eh… And also to the singers: Do something about your songs naman. A little risk won’t hurt!!! Kaya nga hit ang AI kasi inaangkin nila yung kanta!!! Hindi nila ginagaya yung original!!!

Pinoy Idol’s No. 1 fan Says: I disagree with you…come on mukhang may taste ka sa music na wala naman…What I and others want to say is (if Im not mistaken) to improve the Pinoy Idol show. Pinoy Idol will rise to its best if they (GMA) will make something to better the show. And I would say nas mas maganda lang ang kanilang pag promote ng show from ABC 5 but so far mas maganda pa rin ang show ng ABC 5 noon.

I was intrigued by this show kasi nababasa ko sa YouTube yung mga comments. Lo and behold, nung pinanood ko yung video and nung nakita ko yung mga judges, LALO na nung nakita ko si Jolina, natawa na lang ako. No offense meant for her. She’s a nice person but I don’t think para sa kanya ang pagjjudge sa Pinoy Idol. Buti pang si Regine ang kinuha nila.
The big difference between Philippine Idol and Pinoy Idol was, Philippine Idol held auditons for the host and for the judges (except for Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, whom ABC5 handpicked.)
Their auditons were held at the CCP which added class to the production.
I watched the last few minutes of Pinoy Idol last night, and all I can say is, I wish GMA auditioned their judges together with a Freemantle consultant. It would have done the show good if they got Maestro Ryan or somebody else with the same high reputation and technical knowledge from the music industry.
Ogie even went on say last night that “this is not GMA’s Pinoy idol, but the Philippines’ Pinoy idol, and Jolina quickly agreed and made another comment that made me cringe, I chose to forget about it.
Clearly this is not a seacrh for the first “Philippine idol,” but the search for the next GMA pop star.

Another request…pls GMA…how about starting the Pinoy IDol from the top…from the scratch…new judges, new set up, new stage, new host…..hmmmmm….not possible?… Yeah i thought so…. it’s doomed to be a “Pinoy Flop” ..but dont worry …we all make a big mistake… just rise up to the challenge…this served as a lesson to all of us…how about conducting a survey first?
I wish the Philippine Survivor will be a big hit…sana bumawi na lang with Survivor series… (sigh)…
Pinoy Idol is a big dissapointment. May flaws ang Philippine Idol before, but this one is worse. Sana palitan ang judges, host, stage director, musical director.. lahat na lang sila. Magsimula na lang ng bago. Ang baduy ng dating.. ang bakya.. sayang.. mataas pa naman expectations ko sa Pinoy Idol. Dapat kasi Philippine Idol na lang ulit, season 2 ang ginawa nila.
plain and simple. overhaul. judges and host are too lame. replace ‘em all. act now or it’s just another variety show.
Most of the contestants are OK I think but the judges are a bunch of crappy “american idol judge wannabes”…

any advice on how to improve the contestants’ performances dahil siya ay hindi performer but an “ARTISTA TRYING SO HARD TO TO SING”.
Sa totoo lang… most of the contestants have a better voice than her. If Jolina was an unknown and would audition to join the Pinoy Idol…she would NOT even get past through the first round.
Jolina should be replaced by the likes of Lani Misalucha, Regine, Jaya, Ryan Cayabyab etc.

yung host, tama yun na mas okey pa si dj mo, pero #1 choice ko (at naisip kong siya nga) ay si drew. the problem with raymons is that walang xang naestablish na connection with thew contestant. you will notice ryan seacrest knug paano niya nakukuha yung loob ng mga contestants, at the same time, hindi inaangat yung sarili. si raymond, ewan knug bakit di niya yun magawa. o tlgang pang-starstruck na lang xa.

sa judges, i thought they were okay, until nakapili na nga sila ng top 24. siguro, knug si imelda papin pa yung nandito, natuwa pa ako. honestly speaking, walang kaisahan yung tatlo. sabog. although okey si ogie. i think mas mabuting inilagay pa dito si dulce na lang. yahoo! big time! ewan. wala akong maisip na ipalit kay wyngard, pero definitely not him. nyok nyok!

i am also a kapuso fan pero ang masasabi ko, NAPAKALAKING KALOKOHAN ang Pinoy Idol. wala na bang magaling kumanta. puro itsura lang yata tiningnan nila, tapos ang tinatanggal yung ilan-ilang maganda ang boses, tulad ni rye, si sherwin pulido kumanta tinangal din, hindi naman nila maloloko ang audience, marunong naman tayong makinig ng marunong kumanta, e mikhang mas okey pa ko kumanta eh, para silang mga asong umaalulong, c wyngard ewan ko ba kung fashion deigner, puro style ang pinapansin, bakit ba xa kinuhang judge e la naman xang alam a music, puro panlalait lang ang ginagawa, trying hard pa ang mga judge na gayahin ang mga nasa AI e indi naman cla credible, pwd bng ulitin nila ang lahat, nakakadismaya kc, ang taas ng expectations ng mga tao lalo pa’t pinalabas nila ung AI sa QTV, lalo lng tuloy nai compare ung junk na pinoy idol, ulitin nila mula sa simula, hindi ako naniniwalang sila na tlg ang top 24 sa buong bansa, c toffer at jay ann lang ang magaling sa kanila eh, palitan na ung iba, lalo na ung host, c drew arellano na lng, nkpg host nmn n xa ng singing contest dti sa QTV eh
I am a Kapuso fan. Alam kong maraming No. 1 sa GMA pero ito ang pinaka-crap. Nag-match yung ratings sa pagiging cheap ng Pinoy Idol. I watch the Singing Bee and it is proven na mas mataas nga ang ratings niya sa Pinoy Idol. Ang layo ng distansya ng ratings ng other shows ng GMA sa Pinoy Idol. Grabe talaga.
Sa mga judges, Ok si Ogie. Sina Jolina and Wyngard ang dapat sibakin. Ginagaya kasi si Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. There are many options kung hindi si Pilita Corales or Francis M:

i agree to most of the comments here … i had such high hopes for PI. Since i haven;t got pinoy tv yet .. i usually just watch this over vid streams … sayang ..
HOST: GMA still has a chance! since I heard they will change set when top 10 cums, change host as well! put drew of dj mo instead …
JUDGES: Ogie is getting better, Jolina just echoes the other judge’s comments and WYNGUARD? ummm … i notice whenever a contestant “re-arranges” a song, he tell them ‘wala ka sa tono”. I dunno if GMA could still replace them duing this season pero if they don;t they’re loosing a lot of viewers week after week.
CROWD: get fans for goodness sake! OK, you put the contestants’ families there for support but they all look like watching a horror flick rather than a singing competition. The audience is a big factor in transcending the energy to the tv viewers.
All in all, as a person who was totally excited about this program, I think i’ll give it till top 10 until i decide whether I should spend time d/l the streams of just look for old batibot videos in utbe instead …
(The contestants are OK, but there were better singers who were eliminated. I also agree to one of the previous comments, PINOY POP SUPERSTAR finalists for the past three seasons were way better than the finalists in PI.)
when i had the time to watch Pinoy Idol (once), i was soooooooooooooo bored!!! i thought i was just watching another quiz bee turned into karaoke show… the set is so lame! the judges are so redundant (comments that just came out of nowhere, esp. jolina and direck wyngard). the audiences are so bored that they don’t have the energy to cheer for their aspirant idol. i hope they do manage to break some ice if they still want viewers to watch it. it’s so awful.
hello to all pinoy idol fanatics… dont get mad ha… pero the first time i watched it … disappointed din ako… as an audience medyo boring talaga panuodin napakaordinary ng show and as a conservatory of music and part of the choir…failure tlga ung mga comments n ung musical style n technique n ung over all performance… hay!
sa mga judges…. si ogie medyo okay pa sya kc … he’s a good singer and composer. all his songs and compositions nag hihit naman tlga…may k sya to be one of the judges aside from he’s a graduate of UP conservatory of music kaya naman meron syang alam pag dating sa performance…
pero c jolina… although sumikat sya… marunong sya kumanta n meron syang sariling style… as a judge sa tingin ko mag pacute nlang sya sa sop … dun nlang sya wag na sya lalabas… kakaiba kc sya mag judge.. di ko gusto syang mag comment… ang layo… dami pa pasikot sikot… kahit nga sya cguro pansin nya sarili nya na kulang pa…
c wyngard… well he’s a talent manager… mag manage nalang sya kung cnu mananalo tapos tingnan natin kung sisikat…pero may point naman sya when it comes sa pag ddress ng isang idol… i agree with hem when he told all the idol wannabees na ” wear dress not costume”… kc sa totoo lang kahit gano pa kagaling ung kumakanta pero kung ung packaging sa knya eh di maganda naku.. eh talaga naman katakutakot na pula makukuha ng isang peroformer…
sa mga idol wannabees naman…to be honest… di cla tumatatak sa isip ko… ung choice of songs… di nila mabigyan ng justice… sa damit naman… medyo may kabaduyan naman tlga… ung performance nila parang nag vvdeoke lang… kung meron man maayos ang performance ,, di mo naman masasabing idol na ang dating…
production design boring… lights walang buhay..studio n stage ang liit… ung audience… hay! feeling ko gusto nadin lumayas dun …
oops ung host c raymond… walang connection sa mga idol wannabeesssssssssss….
to end this up…GMA failed us… hindi talaga siya maganda…kulang na kulang sa lahat ng aspeto

At ano naman ang K nya mag judge.. sure marunong sya kumanta. Eh yung mga kanta ba nya may “justice” din? duh… she’s just a has-been. Dapat ang nilagay nila dyan yung institusyon na ng musikang pilipino… mga Imelda Papin, Nora Aunor, Pilita Corales or yung mga voice coaches ng trumpets or rep… hindi mga has-beens na ang alam lang kantahin ay Paper Roses.
MAU MARCELO is the first Philippine Idol. Sana inak-knowledge ng GMA yun dahil di hamak mas “idol” ang contestants nila kesa sa PI ngayon.
Jan nieto, gian magdangal, raymond sejor, mau marcelo… grabe, eto ang totoong Pinoy Idols…
Hay naku, I really get irritated whenever I watch this show. Before, I was excited bec it’s Pinoy Idol, so I thought it will be at least 50% good in comparison to AI. But goodness, it was not even 20% of AI and this show really really sucks! Gosh! Right now, my friends and i did not even bother to watch this show because it is so boring and irritating in all aspects - hosts, judges, set, contestants, music, everything!

Excited ako manood ng Pinoy Idol noong di pa nagstart, pero noong tumagal na nakakadismaya di ko maintindihan after top 24 isa isang natanggal ang magagaling kumanta at yong mga ordinary lang ang boses at wala talagang challenge kumanta at natira. Talent show ba ito o parang election ng politicians na kung sino ang may pera mananatili till the end kahit mas magaling pa ang mga natatanggal. Sana di nalang kumanta kung text lang pala ang basihan ng winning. Ano ba ang papel ng judges parang wala naman silang silbi sa buong proceso. Kasi sabi nga nila “vote wisely kasi wala kaming magagawa”. Kung maraming kang pera lalo na kung politician ang family mo eh di lamang ka na kasi pera ang kailangan para makatext ng madami. Wala naman palng sense ang show na ito,nakakadismaya. Di lang ako ang nagsabi nito kundi buong bansa,ang iba wala lang luxury to email. Fan pa naman ako ng gma exclusive talaga pero ito ng pinoy idol nakakasira ng buong reputasyon ng channel. Kasi hindi talent ang basehan kundi kung sino ang may pera at influence.

GMA Network?Yan ba talaga patakaran ng Pinoy Idol sa texter lang nakasalalay lahat?Sana naman may percentage lang ang texter pero ang judges parin ang may say. Kasi sayang naman nakakadismaya kung ang maging pinoy idol manalo lang dahil marami pera pambigay ng load.Disgusting…Sayang kayo GMA madami nainis sa inyo dahil lang sa Pinoy Idol.
