CEBU CITY, Philippines—One thing that the production staff of GMA 7’s “Pinoy Idol” has confirmed after four weeks of auditions all over the country: Filipinos are among the most respectful people in the world.

Even after enduring a barrage of vitriolic comments from the judges—specifically Wyngard Tracy—almost all of the rejected aspirants would invariably end the encounter with a smile and a “Salamat po” or “Thank you sir/ma’am.”

This observation was related to Inquirer Entertainment by Tracy himself, as well as Perry Lansigan, executive producer of the local version of the world-famous reality talent contest.

Tracy noted, “On ‘American Idol,’ we often see the rejects curse, or insult, the judges. That has not happened to us … so far.” (Cebu was the fourth stop.)

Not that they’d been dodging it.

February 12th, 2008

pinoy idol auditions in cebuCEBU CITY, Philippines—The fourth stop in the search for GMA 7’s first “Pinoy Idol” took an 80-man production contingent to this Queen City of the South.

Host Raymond Gutierrez pointed out to Inquirer Entertainment that this Visayan island had produced “great singers,” among them Pilita Corrales, Dulce and Verni Varga.

Still, Perry Lansigan, executive producer, was “surprised” by the turnout. Long lines of starry-eyed aspirants gathered in SM Cebu on the first two days of the three-day tryouts which wrapped up Saturday last weekend.

“No comparisons please,” was Raymond Gutierrez’s request to those who would compare his hosting skills to Ryan Agoncillo’s, former host of the Philippine Idol, the local franchise of American Idol.

Last Friday, February 1, 2007, was hectic for Raymond. Alas otso na ng gabi ay on his feet pa rin siya na nanonood ng audition sa control room and waiting for his turn to interview those who auditioned at isinalang sa harap tatlong judges ng Pinoy Idol na sina Wyngard Tracy, Jolina Magdangal at Ogie Alcasid. Pero hindi mo makikitaan ng pagod ang isa sa kambal nina Eddie Gutierrez at Annabelle Rama kahit na he has been doing that since morning of that day sa third leg ng out of town audition ng Pinoy Idol sa Iloilo.

Pinoy Auditions in Cagayan de Oro as reported by Asian Journal

MANILA, Philippines — During the first round of auditions for GMA 7’s “Pinoy Idol” in Cagayan de Oro last week, Jolina Magdangal cried, Ogie Alcasid picked up a slew of lessons, and Wyngard Tracy realized that he would soon become the most hated man in the country.

Jolina, Ogie and Wyngard are the judges in the local version of the world-famous reality talent search from FremantleMedia.

In an exclusive interview, Wilma Galvante, GMA 7 senior VP for Entertainment TV, pointed out that the judges’ “two-pronged” role was very important: “They tell the contestant whether they’re good or not, and they influence the viewers’ vote.”

Credibility

For this reason, Fremantle had put a premium on credibility in choosing the three jurors from a list presented by the Kapuso network.

Another crucial consideration was whether prospective judges were willing to devote the next eight months to “Idol,” which premieres in April and wraps up in August.

“I wanted [singer] Regine Velasquez to be a judge, but she’s doing a series of concerts in the US,” Galvante said. “Jolina gave up an afternoon soap.”

Pinoy Idol Logo

January 28th, 2008

Pinoy Idol

This is the logo of Pinoy Idol which is now shown in GMA Network’s promotion of the program. I can still remember how glitzy and awesome the production set was when I watched Philippine Idol live. I hope I can get to cover Pinoy Idol live like I did in Philippine Idol.

Raymond Gutierrez is new host of Pinoy Idol

Raymond’s new hosting job on GMA-7 was formally announced yesterday, January 20, at Showbiz Central. The twin brother of Richard Gutierrez was chosen by GMA-7 to host the most-awaited Philippine franchise of the world’s number one singing competition dubbed as Pinoy Idol.

This is the biggest break for Raymond’s hosting career. He is also currently hosting Showbiz Central and SOP in GMA-7 and Livin’ It Up in QTV 11.

Raymond will take the place of Ryan Agoncillo, who hosted Philippine Idol in ABC-5, where Mau Marcelo was declared the winner. Her runners-up, Gian Magdangal and Jan Nieto, are now part of Kapuso network’s SOP.

I just hope he is as spontaneous as Ryan Agoncillo who did a splendid job in the last Philippine Idol.
