Thursday, September 6th, 2007

“Philippine Idol” Season 2 might be seen on GMA-7 . According to the the news, GMA 7 is negotiating with Freemantle to get the franchise of the Philippine Idol. It will be known this week if GMA 7 will indeed be granted the franchise.

“We’ve heard that,” confirmed Perci Intalan, ABC 5 head of creative and entertainment production. “But last week, we were still discussing with FremantleMedia (“Idol” franchise holder) … about producing not only ‘Philippine Idol,’ but also ‘Asian Idol.’”

ABC-5 will still get the first chance to refuse the offer of course.

Although talks are still being finalized, most likely the Philippine Idol will be launched next year.

No second season for Philippine Idol

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

During the Finale of Philippine Idol first season, I already heard news that there might not be any second season for Philippine Idol.

WILL the curtains fall on “Philippine Idol?”

The local version of the talent search phenomenon “American Idol” may not have a second season this year, according to reliable sources within ABC-5, the television network that owns the local “Idol” franchise.

The sources said ABC-5 incurred heavy losses in last year’s season, which was primarily due to a low number of advertising placements.

Despite lagging behind the television ratings game, ABC-5 produced a widely-followed “Philippine Idol” talent search last year. But revenue generated from the search was not enough to bankroll a second season, forcing ABC-5 to seriously consider canceling the 2007 show, the sources added.

ABC-5 management, led by chairperson Tony Boy Cojuangco, are currently arriving at a final decision on “Philippine Idol’s” second season, which is set to begin in August right after “American Idol” wraps up its 2007 contest

I bet if the network was Channel 2 or Channel 7, there might have been more advertising revenues. Let’s hope Tony Boy can find a way to bring Philippine Idol back.
